Several car rental companies on Kauai provide adapted vehicle rentals, including Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, and National. Hawaii has strict quarantine laws, so anyone traveling with a guide dog should verify the requirements in advance with the Hawaii Department of Agriculture to avoid the dog’s quarantine upon arrival.

Swimming

During your trips to Kauai, be sure to visit the area’s public swimming pools are located on the east and west coasts in Kapaa and Waimea. Both pools are equipped with chair lifts for getting in and out of the pool and have accessible restrooms. A Landeez all-terrain wheelchair is provided at Poipu Beach Park, Lydgate Beach Park, and Salt Pond Beach. All three of these beaches are protected by rock barriers or reefs, making swimming conditions relatively calm. These are also good snorkeling locales, and you can often swim alongside green sea turtles and a variety of tropical fish.

Surfing

Kauai Ocean Recreation Experience, or KORE, is a volunteer-operated swimming and surfing program that meets at Black Pot Beach on Kauai’s North Shore once per month. This is a fun-filled beach day where trained professionals assist locals and visitors of differing abilities to enjoy a relaxing day in the water or try out surfing.
