Our Favorite New Flavors in Kauai

One of the best parts of visiting the lovely island of Kauai is the amazing cuisine offered here. We know better than anyone how varied and vivacious the food scene can be, and we’re thrilled to share some of our favorite Hawaii restaurants! Check out the best three entrees we’ve found this season:

Scientifically Satiating Black Bean Burger

Seth Peterson, the guy who runs the Kickshaws food truck, is one of a kind. With a background in biology, a love for science, and a passion for cooking so strong he taught himself the trade, this is one unique chef. This particular entree is made with an organic black bean burger, Havarti cheese, Rick’s Hawaiian Gold horseradish mustard, compressed apple with champagne vinegar, and comes topped with arugula and served up hot on a vegan torta roll. Menu items are always changing here because Seth likes to mix it up, so get this one while you can!

Hanalei Buffalo Loco Moco

If you’re looking for somewhere to spend brunch, head over to Oasis on the Beach. Not only does it have a gorgeous view (you’ll want to sit and stare all morning) but it has a delicious menu. Our favorite thing is the Hanalei Buffalo Loco Moco, with a Hanalei buffalo patty served on a bed of white rice with eggs and house made cognac soy sauce. It’s simplistic and delicious, and it really hits the spot! If you decide to come back here for dinner, make sure to save some room for dessert because the desserts here are out of this world. Try the Oases Terrine, with Kahlua, dark chocolate, Kauai coffee mousse, and an Absinthe-almond biscotti.

Coconut Curry Plate

You simply have to eat some coconut while you’re visiting us here in Hawaii. Why not try this slam-dunk dish, which can be found at Mermaids Cafe? It comes with fresh vegetables cooked in a golden coconut curry sauce with your choice of Ahi, chicken, or tofu. Wash it all down with their delicious and cooling Spearmint Lemongrass tea, or maybe a Hibiscus Lemonade, or our favorite drink: the Thai Iced Tea with Coconut Milk. It really goes great with that curry.
