Plate Lunches at Marks Place Kauai
A Hawaiian mainstay, these delicious take-away meals are served atop fresh scoops of fluffy rice with potato macaroni salad or a side salad. Top selections include Beef Stew, hamburger steak, chicken katsu, teriyaki chicken, Korean chicken, or the always popular combination plate where you can choose 2-3 of your favorites in one giant tour de force of the island’s everyday flavors. For a true taste of the islands, dig in to a loco moco: hamburger patties atop perfectly cooked rice, topped with fried eggs and smothered in rich and savory brown gravy. Sandwiches and More
Mark’s Place Kauai is more than just plate lunches, however. From their famous mixed plate (chicken katsu, teriyaki beef, and beef stew with rice and potato mac salad) to delicious burgers and chicken sandwiches, everyone is sure to find a new favorite. Add on French fries, macaroni salad, or a bento (a Japanese-style boxed lunch), or, for a special treat, be sure to check out the musubi (a beautiful pillow of rice topped with spam or Korean chicken and wrapped with salted dry seaweed), every Hawaiian kids’ favorite snack.
Mark’s Place also features daily specials which draw rave reviews from visitors and locals alike. Some recent favorites have included grilled ahi over mixed greens with fresh local produce and a light vinaigrette, and citrus marinated sirloin on a Thai green papaya salad. Be sure to ask about the Pau Hāna dinner special, an epic and delicious feast for 4 offered every day.
Mark’s also features delicious freshly baked goods and local snacks like butter mochi, dried ahi, and sweet and savory Chex Mix. Known as omiyage (Japanese for “pack to fly”), these snacks are popular as souvenirs – but be sure to buy extra for yourself to enjoy on the journey home so you don’t get back empty handed.
Open Monday through Friday from 10am to 8pm, Mark’s is located at 1610 Haleukana St. in Līhu‘e, Kaua‘i.
