You are in Kauai for the first time and you want to eat somewhere special for dinner. There are a lot of restaurants on the island and you don’t want to end up in a stuffy gourmet restaurant or a kitschy tourist trap. Fortunately, Kauai ONO, lets you enjoy lots of locally sourced food in a friendly community atmosphere.
The current location is at 5-5086 Kuhio Highway, which is rather remote. However, the restaurant is officially a pop up and the location is apt to change, as is the menu. Patrons eat at a community table, so you can get to know other tourists as well as a local or two.
The Chef at Kauai ONO
Justin Smith comes from a blue-collar home and, according to his biography, was raised on Mexican street food. He went to culinary school in Europe and traveled the world to develop his palate and collect recipes, spices and food ideas from around the globe.
Kauai ONO 560 offers a wine list with many local tropical wines. It’s hard to say what will be on the menu on any given night, but past menus have included a lot of imaginative meals. Fish dishes have included seared ono and ahi tuna. Creative veggie dishes have included a kale and macadamia salad with cilantro pesto as well as a salad with star fruit. Innovative dessert creations have included hot chocolate with churros and mochi cake accompanied by those amazingly sweet bananas you can only get in Hawaii.
If you are planning an event on the island, Kauai ONO can provide full catering. You can have a formal, white table cloth dinner, or you can hire their taco truck to feed everyone at the event. Their taco truck offers gourmet creations that have culinary influences from all over the world. The truck also offers wonderful thing like chocolate tarts and cheesecake for dessert.
