Kauai Calendar: Banana Poka RoundUp May 26

Much of the island of Kauai remains untouched nature, with the nickname of the “Garden Island” holding true. Celebrate the flora and fauna of Kauai by attending the family-friendly Banana Poka RoundUp events on the Kauai calendar.

There’s no better location on Kauai to celebrate nature than in the beautiful Koke’e State Park. Surrounded by miles of sheer cliffs, forest, and trails, this is a nature lover’s paradise. The Banana Poka RoundUp is a forest education fair with learning opportunities and hands on activities for attendees of all ages. Named for the banana poka vine, this invasive species is just one example of weeds that are harmful to Hawaii’s native plants. Learn more about Kauai’s ecosystem and how to protect it from over ten environmental organizations that will be onsite. Try out your basket making skills as you weave with the banana poka vine, make a quintessential Hawaiian lei, and create forest crafts from locally relevant materials. Children will enjoy participating in a variety of games, and you’re never too young (or old!) to participate in the crowing contest. Bring a blanket and relax in the meadow to the sounds of Hawaiian music. Snacks are also available from a variety of vendors while you enjoy one of our favorite Kauai festivals in 2019.

Attend This Kauai Calendar Event

The Banana Poka RoundUp takes place yearly on Memorial Day. Kauai calendar events for 2019 will be held on Sunday, May 26th, 2019 from 10:00am – 4:00pm. This free event is held in the beautiful Koke’e State Park.

Around the Area

Koke’e State Park is accessed from Kauai’s west coast town of Waimea. The drive up Highway 550 provides ample stopping points to admire the views across Waimea Canyon, known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. At the 15 mile marker, stop in the Koke’e Museum for maps and trail information. Trails throughout the park provide jaw-dropping views of Waimea Canyon and the renowned Na Pali coastline.
