Kauai Tubing Adventure in the Mountains
This week’s featured attraction is Kauai tubing. If you’re ready for a real water adventure, be sure to check this one out! Hosted by Kauai Backcountry Adventures, the tubing tour gives you exclusive access to former Lihue Plantation lands and scenery that is absolutely stunning.
Starting from centrally located Lihue after a brief safety presentation, you will enjoy a very bouncy ride up into the mountains (usually in a four wheel drive van) to the launch site, while your tour guides provide information about both island and plantation history. There is one stop on the way to the launch site that provides spectacular views of Waialeale Crater. Once at the launch site, you will receive brief instructions on how to get in to your provided tube. Fair warning, the water is on the chilly side, and if you complain, your tour guides will take special care to ensure your “comfort.”
Once in your tube, you will float down part of the vast irrigation system that once provided water to more than 17,000 acres of sugar cane. Hand dug in the 1870s, you will get to see amazing feats of engineering that include several tunnels, including one that you go through in complete darkness. At the end of the Kauai tubing tour, a picnic lunch is provided, along with the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing dip in a nearby swimming hole.
The mountain tubing adventure is recommended for those ages 5 and over who are in generally good physical condition. Tours cost $106 per person plus tax and take place rain or shine (unless the weather is prohibitively bad). Tours occur daily at 8:00 AM, 9:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM, and 2:00 PM, with check-in a half hour prior to the start time, and last for approximately three hours.
