Blessed with a year-round growing season, warm Hawaiian sunshine, and ample rainfall, Kaua‘i is not known as the Garden Isle out of mere happenstance. The fertile soils of our island’s river valleys and gentle rolling hills provide a bounty of exotic fruits and fresh produce, all of which is available to you during your visit. Every day of the week there is a different farmers’ market in Kauai, meaning you can enjoy the literal fruits of labor from local artisans, farmers, ranchers, and craftsmen. With options ranging from organic coffee to locally produced honey to sweet pineapples, be sure to look for the Kaua‘i Grown and Kaua‘i Made stickers at the market nearest you!
All of Kaua‘i’s farmers’ markets are outdoors, rain or shine. With backdrops of lush forests and majestic mountains, you’ll have no doubt you are in paradise as you stroll the colorful booths, interacting with friendly and helpful vendors while sampling island delicacies like macadamia nuts, local goat cheese, chocolate covered bananas, and delicious pies filled with exotic local fruits. Some of the markets only feature fresh produce, while others also offer local crafts, hot food, live music, and local craft beer and wine in the beer garden. Be sure to check them all to experience everything Kaua‘i has to offer!
The Best of the Best
You won’t want to miss the two largest farmers’ market in Kauai, each with a dazzling lineup of local delicacies, crafts, produce, and more. On Saturdays, the Hanalei Farmers’ Market at the Community Center (9:30am-noon) has 23 vendors specializing in local organic produce. Crisp, fresh lettuce is accented by rows and rows of beautiful fresh fruits like mangoes, guava, pineapple, and more. Enjoy fresh-squeezed tropical juices, specialty breads fresh from the oven, fresh goat cheese, and much more. An additional 25 vendors offer island crafts and artwork ranging from lahala baskets to fine photography. Sip coconut water from a freshly cut coconut and explore the beautiful offerings in this idyllic setting rated one of Hawai‘i’s best farmers’ markets.
On the southern side of the island, one of the largest weekly markets at Kaua‘i Community College in Līhu‘e (Sat., 9:30am-1pm) is a must see. Fresh island products like kiawe honey, coffee, and macadamia nuts abound, as well as an incredible array of fresh produce, tropical flowers, and decadent fruits. A fleet of island-inspired food trucks is standing by to feed all your cravings.
