Stroll among tropical flowers, water features, and unique bronze sculptures. Navigate your way through a full-size hedge maze. Splash with your keiki in a fountain beneath a 16-foot Jack and the Beanstalk statue. With something for everyone in the family, Na Aina Kai Botanical Gardens is an excellent day excursion when you’re ready to take a break from the beach.
Na Aina Kai Gardens began in 1982 as a landscape project in Joyce and Ed Doty’s front yard. What began as a hobby grew to the 240 acres of Eden that it is today. Since 1999, the gardens became a Not-for-Profit Foundation open to the public for events and tours.
Tours of the Na Aina Kai Botanical Gardens
To see experience the gardens, you must be part of an organized tour. There are a wide range of tours available lasting 1.5 to 5 hours. Walk through this beautiful landscape to the calming sounds of rushing water as you pass by the Ka’ula Lagoon with its plunging waterfall and tropical island. Breathe in the sweet fragrance of the islands as you walk among colorful tropical flowers. Tours are also available in covered open-air carts for those who would prefer to take a load off their feet and relax in the shade.
For the Kids
Children under 13 will enjoy one of the “Under the Rainbow” Children’s Garden Family Tours. The kids can play in Jack’s fountain and become explorers in the jungle tree house. Trains, bridges, tunnels, log cabins, and slides are also part of the children’s garden and will provide plenty of opportunities for imagination and exploration.
Tours of the Na Aina Kai Botanical Gardens are available on Tuesdays through Fridays and range in price and length. Na Aina Kai also hosts a monthly play day on select Saturdays where you can enjoy time with your kids in the “Under the Rainbow” Children’s Garden for $10 per person (children under 1 year old are free).
