Situated on Kauai’s sunny south shore, Kiahuna Beach is popular among both locals and visitors alike. It is located on Poipu Beach Road just in front of the Sheraton Kauai Resort, giving it the local name of Sheraton’s. For a beach day that’s great for the whole family, Kiahuna is an ideal location.
In general, waves on south shore beaches tend to be smaller in winter and larger in summer. During flat winter days, this beach is popular with snorkelers, when you can swim among parrotfish, butterfly fish, and green sea turtles. Though it is not lifeguarded, it’s also a great beach for swimming. Beginning surfers can be found riding the gentle waves along the east end of the beach, where you can take lessons with Kauai Surf School. The shallow water in this area make it a perfect learning spot for children and adults new to the sport. More advanced surfers paddle out to catch the larger swell toward the west end, but caution should be taken in this reef-ridden area. The shore break at Kiahuna Beach is usually moderate, making it great for boogie boarding and body surfing.
This is a popular spot for beach-goers, so don’t head here for seclusion. However, it is popular for a reason, so it’s definitely worth a visit. Bring some shade to Kiahuna in Hawaii, as there are only a few palms offering respite from the sun.
