When the summer sun is high in the sky, you will find crystal clear, tranquil waters at Kauai’s North Shore Ke e Beach. Protected by a reef, this is an ideal location for swimming and snorkeling the summer days away. Enjoy the colorful underwater world as you swim among butterfly fish, parrotfish, green sea turtles, and other tropical wildlife. With soft white sand curled against the crescent turquoise bay, this is a beautiful place to spend the day. Trees fringe the back of the beach, offering shade for picnickers. The calm water and lifeguard stand makes this an ideal spot for families with children. Wading out a ways into the water will afford jaw-dropping views of the Na Pali coast.
In winter, this beach receives high surf and strong currents, making it a dangerous place for swimming. However, even during winter months, this is an ideal spot to watch an unforgettable Hawaiian sunset.
Around the Area
Ke e Beach in Hawaii and Ha’ena Beach Park are the starting points for the famous Na Pali Cliffs and the Kalalau Trail. The Na Pali Cliffs are inaccessible by vehicles other than boats cruising the coastline. The Kalalau Trail is an extremely challenging 11-mile trail accessible by permit only, starting at Ke’e Beach and ending at Kalalau Beach. Even if you don’t hike the entire trail (22 miles round trip), it is worth hiking 15-20 minutes up the beginning of the trail (no permit required) for amazing views of the Na Pali coastline.
