Anahola Beach

Tucked away from the main road on Kauai’s coconut coast, Anahola Beach has few tourists and is a great spot to live like a local and enjoy a sense of seclusion without having to carry your beach gear too far.

Protected by an outlying reef, this is one of the safest beaches on Kauai’s east coast. The often-calm waters can offer good snorkeling along the outer reef. Submerge into the underwater world and swim among parrotfish, rainbowfish, and sea turtles, among other tropical sea life. With gentle waves and the nearby lifeguard stand, this can be a great beach for families with children to enjoy the water. This beautiful white sand crescent beach is fringed with trees, offering plenty of shade for a picnic. There are also picnic tables and restrooms onsite, so pack a lunch and stay for the day.

Head to the north end of the beach to see where the Anahola River empties into the ocean. This area is good for surfing and bodyboarding, but swimmers should use caution, as this area is not lifeguarded and there are often strong rip currents here.

If you’re hoping to do some boogie boarding, surfing, or snorkeling at Anahola in Hawaii, pick up your rentals in the nearby town of Kapa’a first, as there are no beachfront rentals available.

Planning Your Excursion to Anahola in Hawaii

Anahola Beach is located in Kauai’s east coast town of Anahola, 14 miles north of the Lihue Airport and five miles north of Kapa’a town, one of the island’s main shopping and dining hubs.

In the Area

For some of the island’s best shopping and dining, head five miles south of Anahola Beach to the town of Kapa’a. Kuhio Highway slows here and becomes the happening main street of the town. The sidewalk-lined streets are packed with surf shops, restaurants, shave ice stands, and shops selling locally made goods. Kapa’a is the best spot on the island to grab a bite to eat and to pick up gifts, souvenirs, or necessities for your stay.
