High in the rugged Kaua‘i mountains, lost amidst the lush jungle vegetation and exotic tropical flowers, is a thrilling Kauai tubing adventure unlike any other. There may be no beach in sight, but be sure to grab your bathing suit, a pair of water shoes, and a waterproof camera before you tackle Kaua‘i’s only backcountry tubing adventure. Over the course of the afternoon you will explore the island’s mysterious interior via a network of natural streams and man-made canals, aqueducts, tunnels, and flumes, blissfully floating on your very own inner tube.
The Islands Only Kauai Tubing Adventure
Backcountry’s Mountain Kauai Tubing is perfect for the entire family (ages 5+), promising an unforgettable day of adventure and exploration in the heart of this beautiful island. Your day begins with a 4-wheel drive trek across the lush grounds of the former Līhu‘e Plantation, working your way higher and higher into the surrounding mountains while your expert guide teaches you about the island’s natural history and the settlers who built the network of waterways you are about to explore. Breathtaking vistas and incredible scenery give way to enchanted streams once you reach your destination. Here you will don your helmet, headlamp, and water socks and hope aboard your rugged vessel for the day’s final journey: an innertube.
From the launch point you will venture through a network of man-made waterways carved out of the mountains at the end of the 19th century to provide irrigation to the plantation lands below. Float down wide canals, drift beneath verdant jungle canopies, and then get ready for an exciting exploration of tunnels carved directly through the heart of the mountains, emerging in daylight just in time to fly down one of the many flumes along your route. Along the way you will pass through some of the most pristine and isolated tropical forests on the island, with beautiful views of the valleys below and the legendary Waialeale Crater. Your trip ends at a secret swimming hole, where a delicious picnic lunch is provided. Tours depart daily from Līhu‘e at 8, 9, and 10am, and 12, 1, and 2pm.
As the only eco-tour company with access to these lush 17,000 acres, Kaua‘i Backcountry also provides zip line tours and hidden waterfall adventures, but in our books nothing beats the only Kauai tubing adventure.
