Kaua‘i, the Garden Isle, is an outdoor paradise perfect for puppies and pooches of all ages. From refreshing streams to explore and wild chickens to chase, there are endless miles of sand and surf for pets to folic in, with no shortage of wonder, excitement, and fun things to do in Kauai for dogs of all sizes at Kauai’s pet friendly beaches.
Adopt a Dog
Of course, being a small, remote island means bringing your pet to Kaua‘i is no easy feat. But never fear! If your pet gives you the okay, why not adopt a dog for a day during your stay on the island? (Assuming your four-legged friend back home won’t be too jealous.) The Kaua‘i Humane Society offers a program where you can adopt a shelter animal so they can join you on dog-friendly hikes and a day of exploration, all while wearing an “Adopt Me” vest that just might help them find a new home.

A Day at the Park and Pet Friendly Beaches
Whether you are a Kaua‘i resident with your own pooch or you adopt a dog for the day, there is plenty of fun things to do in Kauai with your four-legged friend. Kaua‘i features two dog parks, one in the Wai Koa Plantation in Kilauea (North Shore) and the other in Līhu‘e at the Humane Society. Both parks are a great place for your dog to play and make new friends. The North Shore park is free, community run, and offers exceptional views of the majestic mountains and sweeping coastline, but the Humane Society’s park requires a donation.
Dog Days of Summer
Every day in Hawai‘i is a great day to hit the beach. Even with a dog in tow you have plenty of pet-friendly options for a day on the sand. Maha`ulepu Beach at Poipu and Kalapaki Beach in Līhu‘e are two popular ones, but most beaches and parks not officially maintained by the county are fine for canine visitors.
Hiking with Man’s Best Friend
There are many great places to take your dog for a walk on Kaua‘i, but some of our favorites are the Sleeping Giant hike in Wailua and the numerous hiking trails and scenic lookouts of Koke`e State Park and Waimea Canyon. For easier strolls there is always the Kapa`a Bike Trail, a re-purposed old rail line that makes for a great walk with some beautiful scenery.
No matter where you and your furry friend choose to explore, just remember to always pick up after your pet and to keep dogs leashed when applicable. Kaua‘i is a beautiful outdoor paradise and is quite dog-friendly, so don’t think twice about bringing your dog along on your next adventure when you book our amazing vacation rentals.
